In this dark, psychologically sophisticated coming of age story, two teenagers, Ludwig and Johann, come together to form a rather unhealthy team. The novel by Dirk Kurbjuweit, for which the agency represented the film rights, has become an exciting, authentic film:
The two protagonists are 17, and when Johann joins the class of outsider Ludwig, the two become friends. The relationship between the boys becomes closer and closer as they begin to form a rowing team in a “two-man without”, a constellation in which no helmsman is needed. As they gradually outdo all their rivals, except for a pair of twins from Potsdam, they decide to become like twins themselves. A closeness that works well until Johann enters into a secret relationship with Ludwig’s sister …
